Database training for all participant libraries

March 4, 2009

GALE

Gale offers hands-on training opportunities in any region of Ontario for groups of 15 or more librarians who can provide a venue equipped with internet access and a sufficient number of computers used either singly or shared. The groups can be comprised of librarians from various sectors; i.e. public, school, college, university or government libraries. This is an ideal opportunity for regional library groups, school districts, or any individual institutions to come together for a quality training session. The sessions can be structured as train-the-trainer sessions or sessions focusing on questions and problems faced everyday on the job. If you are interested in forming a group and hosting a training session, contact Gerda Molson, Resource Ontario Project Manager at gmolson@knowledgeontario.ca.

Web-Conference Training will also be offered on the Gale resources using web-conferencing software, Conference Plus. Some sessions will provide an overview of database content and search strategies, others will focus on specific databases or elements of using the databases such as the New PowerSearch Interface, Homework Help Using the Gale Databases, Using the Gale Health Databases, etc. A schedule of these training Sessions will be posted as soon as available.

Short training videos on the various Gale resources that can be viewed online from the desktop will be available very soon.

EBSCO

A schedule of webinar training sessions hosted by EBSCO can be found on the EBSCO’s Knowledge Ontario page. Online registration is required to participate in these sessions that are offered at various times of the day and last approximately one hour.

Short Adobe Flash and PowerPoint presentations are available by choosing the EBSCO training section on the EBSCO link. Look in the Product Specific Tutorials section to find tutorials on using Auto Repair Reference Center and Canadian Points of View Reference Centre.

CEDROM-SNi

As new users register for the CEDROM SNi databases, Webex Training Sessions will become available. These will focus on the librarian and administrator accounts to ensure a clear understanding of the features and functions of those different accounts. Train-the-trainer sessions will also be offered. All sessions will be offered both in French and English. Keep checking the website to see when these sessions are scheduled.

TEEN HEALTH AND WELLNESS (ROSEN)

A training tutorial about this new database is now available on the Rosen registration site -- see the box on the left-hand side. It can be viewed online from the desktop.

CAREER CRUISING

Webinar training session coming soon and info will be posted on the Resource Ontario page of the Knowledge Ontario website and on the Resource Ontario wiki.

REMEMBER!

The best training is just digging in and using the resources yourself! Once your library is registered and you’ve gained access, try them out, get to know what’s in them, publicize them and recommend them to your patrons.
